ABOUT THE REGISTER

The Guidelines in Development Register is a place where guideline developers can post details about guidelines currently being planned or developed for use in Australia, information about who is developing them, funding details, and timelines.

We have developed the Register to encourage collaboration and help reduce duplication of effort amongst the Australian guideline development community. Information on the Register is supplied by the guideline developers themselves.

Benefits of registering

Registering details of your guideline in development will:

  • Help put you in touch with other guideline developers

  • Help policy-makers and others in funding and priority setting activities

  • Let people know when your guideline draft is up for consultation, and direct them to your website so that they can provide feedback

  • Together with the information on Clinical Practice Guidelines Portal, show where the gaps are in Australian clinical practice guidelines.

Processing of guideline development projects submitted to the Register and keeping the details current is an ongoing process, as we aim to keep up to date with current guideline development activity happening in Australia.

Keeping up to date

The Register will be further developed to provide tools and resources for guideline developers and to do this we will be working closely with our Guideline Editorial and Advisory Committee, made up of a broad-based representation of Australian guideline development expertise.

If you’d like to be informed of additions to both the Guidelines in Development Register and the Clinical Practice Guideline Portal, subscribe to our newsletter or RSS feed.

How do I submit a guideline in development?

If you are currently developing an Australian clinical practice guideline, or planning on developing one in the near future, please submit your guideline details to NICS to be assessed for inclusion using the Guideline in Development Online Registration Form.

Who can submit a guideline in development?

A guideline in development can be submitted for inclusion on the Register if it is produced under the auspices of a medical specialty association, non-government organisation, health service, hospital, relevant professional society, public or private health organisation, government agency at the federal, state level or local level.

The guideline in development must be for use in Australia.

It is a requirement that the source and type of funding used for guideline development is disclosed, this information will be displayed on the Register.

Please note that a clinical practice guideline under development by an individual, a pharmaceutical company, medical device manufacturer, medical equipment manufacturer, pharmaceutical company sponsored advocacy group or any organisation whose aim in developing a guideline is to sell or promote goods or services to the Australian public is ineligible for inclusion on the Guidelines in Development Register.

As the work of the Clinical Practice Guideline Register grows, we expect the number of guidelines in development on the Register to increase.

If you have completed an Australian clinical practice guideline, you are encouraged to submit it for inclusion on the NHMRC Clinical Practice Guidelines Portal.

If I submit a guideline in development to the Register, how will my information be used?

The contact information supplied on the Register is intended to help put guideline developers in touch with each other. It must not be used for commercial purposes.

This information will be freely accessible to anyone using the Register.
